Defending the Lord’s Prayer 🙏
Labor MP Dave Kelly MLA has been publicly campaigning to remove the Lord’s Prayer from the opening of WA Parliament – a tradition that dates back to 1558. He has called it “outdated” and suggested it is incompatible with democratic government.
I find the push troubling. The Lord’s Prayer opening Parliament is not a declaration of a theocracy. It is a simple, humble acknowledgement of the Christian heritage that shaped so much of our law, our culture, and the very concept of human dignity that underpins democratic governance.
But what I found even more disturbing than the “theocracy” line was the suggestion that the Lord’s Prayer is somehow a “trigger” for survivors of abuse. Abuse is evil and must always be condemned without reservation. Yet to imply that the prayer Jesus Christ taught His disciples is, in itself, a symbol of that evil is to say that any reference to Christianity must be read through the worst actions ever committed by people who claimed to follow it. That is a wrong – to survivors, to the believers, and to the truth.

Non-Government Business – Libraries and Our Kids 📚
Once a year, I get 80 minutes to set the agenda in the Chamber with Non-Government Business.
This year, I used that time to move a motion on an issue that has concerned me for a long time: the availability of sexually inappropriate material for minors in public spaces, and particularly in the children’s sections of our public libraries.
The motion was straightforward.
- It affirmed the genuine importance of public libraries to our communities.
- It noted the concern about inappropriate material being made available to children.
- It affirmed that parents have a right to expect that content in children’s sections is actually safe for young readers.
- And it called for a system of review to ensure that titles in those sections are genuinely appropriate for the age groups they serve.
In the lead up to this motion, I opened a transparency portal to ask parents to submit any examples they’d seen of inappropriate titles in the children’s section of their local library, and we received many troubling examples.
Was this motion controversial? It should not be. Yet the Labor Government opposed it. That tells you something about where their priorities lie when it comes to protecting children.
Budget Reply Speech 💪
Earlier this week, I delivered my annual Budget Reply speech – and as the leader of a parliamentary party, I am entitled to unlimited time. I made full use of it.

Tabling the Faith Schools Petition 🙏
I tabled our Parliamentary e-petition defending the rights of Christian and other faith-based schools here in WA. 2,300 Western Australians added their names to stand for the right of schools to operate and employ according to their values.
That is a meaningful number, and I am grateful to everyone who signed and shared it. But I know there are many more who care about this issue deeply. We need to keep the momentum going.
If an MP visits your school or ministry, please remind them about the implications of proposed changes to the Equal Opportunity Act and what those changes would mean for your school and your families. The Government needs to hear these stories directly from the communities they would affect.
Asking about Student Safety 🚨
I recently asked the Minister a question about some very serious reports I had received regarding a student allegedly assaulted near an abandoned warehouse, which nearby schools and parents had already raised concerns about multiple times because of ongoing antisocial behaviour.
When it comes to the safety of our kids, there is simply no room for delay. The Minister’s answer was disappointing. Several key parts of my question were overlooked entirely.
The Government needs to urgently engage with the victim’s family, listen to local schools and parents, and ensure this site is properly secured so that students can travel to and from school safely. Every child deserves to feel safe in their community, and every parent deserves to know their concerns are being taken seriously – we keep at it!
The Australian Christian Freedom Index ⚠️
I put a crucial question to the Attorney General about the Australian Christian Freedom Index and the proposed changes to the Equal Opportunity Act.
The answer was worrying. While the AG acknowledged the importance of Christian communities, they did not rule out changes to the Act – leaving themselves plenty of wiggle room to come back to this issue at a later point. That is not good enough.
This is a team effort. I will keep pushing in Parliament, but I need you alongside me. Ask visiting MPs directly:
- Where do they stand on these proposed changes?
- Do they genuinely understand what proposed changes would mean for your school community?
- Mobilise families to write to their representatives and share the positive stories of faith-based schools doing remarkable work.
Visiting Rehoboth Christian College
I visited Rehoboth Christian College in Kenwick to meet with the leadership team and hear about their remarkable story and their very real concerns about proposed discrimination law changes and infrastructure demands.
Rehoboth began as a parent-founded Dutch Christian school and has grown significantly over the years. Their enrolment model reflects a genuine partnership between parents and school and a commitment to uphold its values and foundation. There are also plans for necessary expansion as demand increases – and this will require a wider team effort!
Visiting Quinns Baptist College
I had a wonderful visit to Quinns Baptist College to experience and discuss their Friday “Connect” Christian formation program.
Principal Kieran walked me through the vision for prioritising Christian education and the deliberate decision to double the dedicated time for Christian formation in the school week. The Friday “Connect” sessions are incredible. It’s time set aside for a message, praise and worship and students leading small groups afterwards – such a valuable way to sow into kids and families!
What struck me was the clarity of the school’s ethos: every child has a right to learn, and every teacher has a right to teach. That simple commitment, upheld consistently, has helped rebuild a flourishing school community for both Christian and non-Christian students alike. This is exactly what is at stake when we talk about protecting faith-based schools.
Wanneroo Prayer Breakfast ☀️ 🙏
It was a beautiful (but chilly) morning at the 2026 Wanneroo Prayer Breakfast, alongside Mayor Linda Aitken, local church leaders, schools and members.
Wanneroo is one of WA’s fastest growing communities, and that growth brings real pressure on families, infrastructure, and services. Events like these are special because they bring people together to do the most important thing we can do for our communities – collaborate and pray! It is the foundation. I lifted our leaders and levels of government, and it was great to see schools do the same!
Homeschoolers Talent Quest WA ☀️
These are the fun events! I loved being a judge at the Homeschoolers Talent Quest WA and the THAT (Those Homeschoolers Are Talented) Awards, celebrating the extraordinary talent of homeschooled students from right across Western Australia.
The courage and creativity on display – both on stage and in the canvas art exhibition – was impressive. Watching them perform and having fun with all the families was so wholesome. Parents should be supported in whatever education journey they choose for their kids! Huge thanks to the organisers, sponsors, fellow judges, and every family who invested so much to make the evening so special. Bring on 2027!

As I was preparing for my Budget Reply, I kept thinking about vision and flourishing.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law.”
In its biblical meaning, vision is revelation from God — His truth, His Word, His direction. When people lose sight of God’s truth, they lose restraint. When there is no higher standard, society starts to drift.
But when people live under God’s Word, they find wisdom, stability and joy.
The second half of the verse says: “Happy is he who keeps the law.”
Blessing comes not only from hearing God’s Word, but from living under it. That applies to individuals, families, churches and nations.
A society without moral clarity eventually becomes reckless. But when people return to God’s truth and relationship with Him, they find life, and life in abundance.
That is why vision and flourishing must shape the numbers when we decide what to fund and where. Budgets reveal what we value, what we protect, what we reward, and what kind of WA we are shaping.
Imagine governments measured by that plumbline — not only by what they spend, but by whether that spending helps people live with purpose, truth and the conditions to truly flourish.
